One day while scrolling through Instagram, I spotted unbelievable lipstick ad and knew I NEEDED to try this product. The video shows an arm full of lipstick swatches being run under a sink and scrubbed with dish soap… and the swatches don’t budge. At all. The ad was for the Beauty Bakerie Lip Whip ($20), which I excitedly purchased. Read on to see if the Lip Whip lived up to my high expectations.
What is it?
The Beauty Bakerie Lip Whip is a liquid lipstick boasted as long-lasting, smudge-proof and waterproof. It comes in a ton of shades and supposedly lasts all day, including through eating and drinking. And bonus, it’s vegan, because that’s the new hot thing to be. The shade I purchased is Syruptitious, a mauve-rose. It comes in your run-of-the-mill liquid lipstick tube and has a pointed sponge tip applicator for an easy application.
How to Use It
Beauty Bakerie recommends using a lip scrub before applying so the product goes on smoothly. Apply the lipstick to completely bare lips using the sponge tip applicator and wait 5 minutes for it to dry. You can apply more than one coat for a more pigmented look. The instructions say not to use any other lip products (balms and such) under or over the lip whip as it can break the formula down. Beauty Bakerie also recommends avoiding getting any oils on your lips as that can also cause fading.
I know this has nothing to do with the product but Beauty Bakerie’s packaging and branding are janky AF and could use a makeover. (Sorry, designer brain). Anyway, I decided to try this out while I was working from home to see if it outlasted my constant snacking. I’m normally not much of a lipstick wearer (re: constant snacking) and I’m also uncoordinated and can never get lipstick to look like an adult applied it. But the Lip Whip applicator is BOMB and is so easy to use! I easily swiped the product on in a matter of seconds. I decided to stick with one coat and see what happened. The Syruptitious color is pretty, but a little darker than I’d normally go for (a lot of the colors I wanted were sold out. Boo.)
The product dries to a matte finish within a minute or so. I was surprised when I could actually rub my lips with my finger and nothing came off! When it’s dry, the Lip Whip feels weightless, just like your actual naked lips. It’s like the best of both worlds of a smudge-proof stain and a matte lipstick. While the Lip Whip isn’t drying, it’s definitely not hydrating either. So if you have naturally dry lips, don’t expect this stuff to act like a balm or moisturizer in any way.
Time for the real challenge: Does the stuff hold through a full day of eating, drinking, dog walking, graphic designing, instagram scrolling and SVU watching? Well first of all, my lips felt super dry after a few hours, but as I said they’re ALWAYS dry so I can’t exactly blame the Lip Whip for that. They also didn’t LOOK as dry as they felt, which is proof that this is a bomb ass formula. Well after 9 hours of wear, the Lip Whip was still going strong! There was a little fading on the innermost parts of my lips, but besides that my lips looked about the same at 6pm as they did at 9am. During these 9 hours I drank water, kombucha and tea almost constantly and ate breakfast, lunch and many snacks.
Now the tricky part: the removal. While Beauty Bakerie sells their own $14 Lip Whip remover, I am a cheapo and decided to skip it. I definitely made the right call: A few swipes of a coconut oil-soaked cotton ball and the stuff came right off! If you don’t have coconut oil, I’m sure most oils will do the trick. Just make sure if you’re traveling to always have an oil with you because the stuff does NOT come off with normal soaps and face washes.
I was looking for a great long-wear lipstick to wear for my upcoming wedding and I think this might just be the one! I’d highly recommend the Beauty Bakerie Lip Whip to anyone and everyone looking to apply and go. This stuff is my new fave and I’ll definitely be buying more colors!
