I always love a good foot peel. So to really put TonyMoly to the test, I decided to review the TonyMoly Shiny Foot Super Peeling Liquid ($9) after running a half marathon.
If you’re not familiar with the product, foot peels are an awesome solution to dry, cracked feet. The trend started in Asia and made their way to the States recently. They come with plastic booties for your feet, which you fill with a liquid solution and leave on for a couple of hours. After a few days, the skin on your feet will start to peel off (kind of gross, kind of cool) and you’re left with the softest feet of your life.
Because the skin peeling can be pretty obvious, it is vital to plan out your foot peel in advance. Nothing is worse than trying to enjoy a beach vacay in Thailand while your feet shed like snakes all over Phuket. This time, I planned mine at a time where I knew I wouldn’t be hitting the beach for at least two weeks.
I put the booties on, poured the liquid inside and let them soak for an hour and forty five minutes. Then, I carefully tore the booties off in the shower and rinsed. After rinsing, I noticed that my toenail polish started to fade, so avoid getting a pedicure right before you peel.
While usually the peeling doesn’t begin until day four or five, this time my heels and toes started to flake on day three. I assume that’s due to the torture I put my feet through by running in sneakers for 13.1 miles. The grossness continued into day four and five when they started to peel off like a snake shedding its skin. (Sorry for making you picture that). On night five, I slathered my feet with coconut oil and covered them with socks to help the peeling process. And boy did it work- on day six, my feet were finally flake-free. I could show them off in the warm weather!
I cannot stress enough how important it is to plan your foot peel in advance! You may need to wear closed-toed shoes for up to 2 weeks. Foot peels work differently for everyone: the amount of peeling depends on how dry or damaged your feet are. My post-half-marathon feet peeled right away and were ready to go within 3 days… just a sign of how bad my feet were! In the past, I’ve seen different amounts of peeling depending on the type of shoes I was wearing and how much walking I’d done at the time.
If you’re planning to peel, don’t forget that the layers on your feet protect them! So it’s not great for them to frequently strip the skin with foot peels. I wouldn’t advise using a foot peel more than once every few months. And the best time to peel? Before a beach vacation, but make sure it’s AT LEAST a month away. While we love the Tony Moly Shiny Foot Peel, there are a ton of other amazing foot peels out there that will do the trick!
