When this crazy product called “Unicorn Snot” began taking over my instagram feed, I knew I HAD to give it a go. The reasonably priced sparkly gel and lip balm is packaged phenomenally which makes it an absolute millenial trap. Read on to see if the product itself is as great as its candy-cute exterior.
What it is:
First of all, fear not ladies and gents: no actual unicorns were harmed in the making of this product! Unicorn Snot by the Brooklyn-based site FCTRY is vegan and cruelty-free. The original Unicorn Snot tub ($10) is a cosmetic-grade glitter gel for the face, body and hair that will make you sparkle like a goddess. The lightweight Unicorn Snot lip gloss ($8) has a mineral oil base and is cotton candy scented. Both products come in a large variety of colors.
How to use:
For the tub, scoop a dime-sized amount at a time to your skin and rub it in. It will dry within a minute. Wash it off easily with soap and water. For the lip gloss, swipe it across your lips like regular gloss. For extra sparkle I like to dab extra gloss to the center of my bottom lip.
My first thought when these products arrived was #TBT to the good ol’ Limited Too days! If you aren’t familiar with Limited Too (RIP), it was a tween girls’ clothing and accessories store that was a pink explosion of fun. I’d beg my mom to take me there and I’d walk out with pastel booty shorts that said “Dance” across the butt, a Britney Spears pencil case and temporary glitter hair dye that would later destroy my bathroom walls.
Unlike the crap they sold at LTD2, Unicorn Snot is a high-quality upgrade for all ages! Let’s start with the silver Unicorn Snot gel tub. When I first opened the tub I was surprised to find that it isn’t sticky AT ALL. The gel is unscented and has a super smooth texture that takes some getting used to. I found that I needed to apply a few layers to get a more sparkly look. I’d say that’s a plus- it can be subtle if you want it to be, or you can layer it on and glitter your unicorn heart out.
Because the gel is non-sticky, it won’t rub off on your clothes much (if it does you can just swipe it off). I’ve used it on my body and on my upper cheeks where highlighter goes and it didn’t irritate my skin in the slightest. The sparkle also lasted ALL DAY on my face, arms and chest without budging, then washed off easily in the shower. And bonus: people will compliment your sparkle all day.
Now for the Unicorn Snot lip gloss! I like this gloss, but I definitely like the original tub more. The gloss has a great cotton candy scent and non-sticky texture. It’s easy to apply and looks nice on. But the major downfall is the lack of sparkle. While the OG unicorn snot is layerable, the gloss isn’t really. So while it is shiny and pretty, it’s hard to get a super glittery effect out of it, which is kind of the point of buying Unicorn Snot lip gloss. Overall, I’d recommend both these products to literally anyone of any age looking for some sparkle in their lives. They make amazing gifts and are non-irritating for even the most sensitive skin. So babes, jump on the unicorn bandwagon- you know you want to.
